Prep tops Landon by 11

Sophomore sensations Denny McCarthy, Nate Cohan, and Greg Bourdon led the Little Hoyas of Georgetown Prep to a convincing 191-202 win over arch rival Landon HS at Landon's home course of Woodmont CC in Rockville, MD on Monday, March 30. Each of these strong players shot one-over 37 on the difficult front nine of the North course, site of numerous US Open qualifiers. Senior Matt Brown posted a 38 while junior Wes Strang shot 42 to close out the scoring for Prep. Kyle Soltesz' 45 did not count.
Landon was lead by sophomore Ralph Blassey who carded a 37. Other scores for the Bears were Teddy Tolin (39), Robert Balaban (41), Drew Mickum (42), and Mike Thornton (43). Evan Conley's 45 did not count.
Both McCarthy and Cohan were upset with themselves for failing to make par on the ninth and final hole. McCarthy three-putted from the front fringe while Cohan's short putt after a splendid chip rimmed the cup and failed to drop.
The Prep performances were all the more impressive since none of the players had ever played the North course and they thought they were going to play the easier South course.
